My name is Dorien Geertsema

and have been working as an orthopedic surgeon since 2019 and also affiliated with Flexclinics as of October 2022. I specialize in disorders in and around the knee and hip. This includes complaints that fit wear and tear of the knee and hip (osteoarthritis), but also (sports) injuries of the knee (e.g. meniscus and cruciate ligament injuries).

I did my medical studies in Utrecht. I trained as an orthopedic surgeon in the Leiden/The Hague region. After completing my specialization in 2019, I completed two fellowships of one year each to further specialize in knee surgery. I did this at the ZOL in Genk, Belgium and the Diakonessenhuis Utrecht/Zeist, among other places. Here I learned a lot in the field of (revision) knee prosthetics and treatment of sports injuries of the knee. I also gained experience with robot-assisted surgery during my fellowship. This is the same technique that we as a team at Flexclinics perform with the MAKO robot when placing a knee prosthesis. In addition to my work at Flexclinics, I also work as an orthopedic surgeon at Gelre Ziekenhuizen in Apeldoorn and Zutphen, where I take care of knee and hip prosthetics in addition to sports injuries.

I am here for you at Flexclinics and look forward to advising and guiding you through your treatment when you experience bothersome knee or hip symptoms. The goal is to achieve the best possible recovery and level of function, with or without surgery.

• Patellofemoral surgery (e.g., for unstable kneecap when it dislocates)
